you want short and hard strenuous activity. i.e. sprint as hard as you can for 45 seconds. 45 seconds because that is the average length that a shit should be. There is a rumor that biking is the best thing to do. This is actually the worst thing that you can do. You only want to do long and stamina building activity in the offseason and only once or twice a month. During the season you want to build as my trainer calls it sprint speed.

Hey Pat,

First of all have fun in the offseason, and here are some tips that I really focus on during my workout.

Make sure for one thing that you are alternating each day between upper body and lower body. For weight training, to avoid loosing flexibility, and to focus more on strength, do high reps, lower weights.

As for drills….This is going to be what you should focus on most during the offseason because this is what is going to give you the explosivness you need to be a quick, strong, and efficent all round player for coming out of corners or even carrying the puck down the ice. We call these explosive drills. Stuff like doing crossovers on a feild ladder or acceleration sprints are excellent for working on your foot quickness. Acceleration sprints basicaly you lye on the ground and get someone to blow a whistle or something…the moment they blow the whistle you get up as quick as possible and get into full speed as fast as you can.

Other things you could do is sprint 100m, walk 100m, sprint 200m, walk 200m, sprint 300m, walk 300, sprint 400m, wal 400m…this is very good for your stamina…the last 400m simulates the end of your shift…so when you hit the ice again during the season you are still able to go hard by the end of your shift…..

make sure to keep up on running everyday so that you stamina stays high, but also don’t go for too long of runs, because it may affect your recovery time for the rest of your training. Your lungs should burn after every run…it shouldnt get easier you want that burning feeling, so make sure you go even harder the next time.

There are much more drills I could tell you about, so If you are interested in hearing more from me feel free to msg me up. Also you can check sites like nikebaur training..they give some pretty good explosive drill examples…

The best routine also is one that you keep up with so stay commited!

Best of Luck
