I just started a new workout routine and I want to tone my muscles. I read a book that suggest that I take “whey protein” to help add muscle. Is this a good idea or should I use another supplement/method to tone my muscles?
I’ve tried looking around to see which whey is the best but I have not clue what to look for when choosing.
Any suggestions??

Buy some Whey protein from the GNC it should last you a month or two. Also buy a shaker bottle while you are there. Drink the shake right after you work out and before bed if you want and or in the morning of a training day.
Whey is the default standard for protein drinks. It’s not a men / woman thing. Whey Isolate is the purest form of the protein, and the most expensive. Whey concentrate removes some of the nutrients in the processing, but usually compensates by making the level of protein much higher per serving. (Such as 30g of isolate vs 52g of concentrate)
Regardless – Whey protein is whey protein. Just as an apple is an apple.
Despite what marketing hype you read – Drinking protein shakes does NOT build muscle, unless the muscles require repair or growth though stress and overexertion. That means, you must work them hard, often to failure before repair and additional muscle tissue is built-on. it’s THIS process that requires additional proteins. Otherwise anyone could drink this stuff and get buff, and that just doesn’t happen. They only get big (fat) from the heavy does of carbs (sucrose) and fats (soy) that are usually included.
After a toning / conditioning workout, I’ll drink a 16 oz cup of either “6-star” brand, or “Muscle Milk” (which I like most). Be warned – some labels suggest you drink this 3-4 times a day, workout or not. They say that because it’s very hard to get “too much” protein, and they want you to buy more – more often. But any unused proteins you consume are just released. You basically pee it out a few hours after you drink it. They don’t store like some vitimins do. it’s very much a “use it or loose it” nutrient.
Also remember – ALL those calories count!!
Make sure you use a pure CHEMICAL FREE whey protein!
