I need a high intensity workout that combines strength and cardio training?

February 8th, 2010

I have access to dumbells, a total gym, a bicycle machine, and treadmill. If possible, include the entire routine, consisting of the workout, how many reps, sets, and how long I should be doing the entire routine. Im average weight, but losing some pounds, and gaining some muscle would be nice.

Thanks in advance

What is the correct way… Cardio first or Later?

February 7th, 2010

My workout routine is Machine and free weights then cardio (about 15-20)
I don’t know if I should do cardio 1st then the machine and weighs or leave it to last.

Help 

What is the best cardio workout DVD for women?

February 6th, 2010

I am hoping to start a home fitness program this summer, and my main issue is losing overall body fat. My big trouble zones are the belly and chest, but I think overall body fat loss is my goal. So I’d like to incorporate mostly cardio, perhaps with some ab emphasis. I am 5′8″, 155, if that makes a difference, and not terribly experienced with exercise routines, but I’d like to start making it a regular part of my day. I would have perhaps 45 minutes to an hour per day to devote to this, although I’m not sure if I should be doing it every day. I’d like to eventually get back down to about 130, where I was in high school, although I’m aware that might take a while. College life has not been kind to my body!

I have considered a gym membership or just working out on my own, but the sad truth is that I know what motivates me, and having that DVD case staring at me every time I go to watch TV should do the job! Does anyone have any particular DVDs to recommend, or any other specific tips for me in getting started?

Is jogging a good choice for a cardio workout?

January 26th, 2010

I’m a 33 year old man, about 183 – 185 pounds, and I’d really like to get down another 15 pounds or so. Right now I’m in the process of adjusting to a better diet, ie more fruits, veggies, fish, teas, less fats and sugars and whatnot. I’m also doing pushups and situps at home and working with light weights. I occasionally hike (in Colorado, so intense hiking), but not consistently enough, and I’m also trying to walk at least a couple miles during slow times at work.

So, should I suppliment all that with some jogging?

Do guys at the gym ever use the “stair machine” for a cardio workout or is it for girls only?

January 26th, 2010

I want to get more into my cardio routine but can’t stand running all the time….I figured I could switch it up by doing some cardio on a stair machine. Is that too feminine a machine for guy’s to use? Regardless, I’ll probably use it anyways but wanted to see if other guys have actually used it for cardio or not…any other good cardio routines instead besides sports?

Weight Loss Workout Routines – Tips To Help Combine Cardio And Strength Training

January 26th, 2010

If you are looking to burn fat and build muscle strength, then you need a combination of cardio exercises and weight training to make it happen. For people that are limited in free time, this may seam overwhelming to accomplish on a regular basis. However, here are some exercise tips to help you save time.

Take up walking or jogging. These exercises save you time because you need the least amount of equipment to get started. All you need is a pair of running shoes and warm clothes.

While jogging is optimal for fat loss, walking is the perfect exercise to start with. It gets your blood flowing and helps you burn fat. Walking is a great starter exercise because it is low impact and likely to extend or injure yourself. However, walking should not be the “end all” for your exercise regimen. You need to be working your way up to running.

Since walking is such a low impact exercise you may not be exerting yourself as you need to. So, make sure you set goals and build up to jogging or running. You’ll have less injury and you’ll build your endurance with this approach. You will be surprised what you’ll be able to do in a few weeks.

Also, you don’t have to spend a long time with cardio. What you have to remember is: the faster you move, the more intense the session is. So 20 minutes of combining walking and running will benefit you greatly and be effective.

The next step is to add a strength training routine. The best way to have an effective routine that saves you time is to have a home gym equipped with a bench and dumbbells.

Dumbbells are a great way to increase muscle tone because they allow you to perform many exercises that tax your muscles at many different angles. Dumbbells are effective for both men and women because you can have many different weight variations.

Exercising at home saves you time because you can workout at your convenience. You will need to schedule your workouts at a time that’s best for you and commit to it. You can get a good work out with dumbbells within 20 minutes to a half an hour.

The best approach is to build up to a fast paced workout with minimal rest. This way you are provided a challenge. However be careful not to exceed your capabilities so you minimize soreness and chance of injury.

To Lose Weight Quickly You Need to Better Understand Cardio

January 26th, 2010

Like most of the other millions of people out there looking for exercises to lose weight quickly, you have probably seen or been told that you should add cardio exercises to your workout routine in order to lose weight quickly.

Although you, like many people, have added cardio to your workout and exercise routine to lose weight, you might not be getting the best weight loss results from it.

The problem that many people have is that they get too focused on the details of the exercise, whether its the type of equipment that they use, the speed at which they are doing it or the length of time that they are exercising.

You have probably seen or know someone who will go on the stairmaster for an hour and look like they have not worked out at all. These people think that just because they spent so much time with their exercises that they will lose weight

Then there are other people who start a massively intense workout routine, such as a circuit training routine and push their body to its limits for 5 minutes. They are drenched in sweat and can barely breathe and are thus assured that they are doing the best exercise to lose weight.

There are benefits to both types of exercises. But what is missing is the focus that these people should have which is not the length of time they are working out or the distance they are able to put in, or even the intensity of the exercise itself, but instead the amount of calories they are burning. Without focusing on the calories themselves many people find it nearly impossible to lose weight quickly.

Your body is different from everyone elses. The way it reacts to exercise and to losing weight is different. If you do not focus on burning calories and finding the right exercise for you to do this, you will have trouble with losing the weight.

To truly lose weight safely and quickly and to keep it off, your body has to burn more calories than you take in and it needs to shed the correct type of body weight. This means that lean muscle needs to be retained and you need to stimulate your metabolism to better help to burn fat. If you can find that balance you will quickly find that the weight loss will start to become apparent.
